Out With the Old, In With the New

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness" (Ephesians 4:22-24).

We had a lot of fun ringing in the new year!  We said good-bye to 2014, and with great excitement and anticipation, we welcome 2015.

Although I like making lists and setting goals, I don't usually make new year's resolutions.  This year, however, I was reminded of Ephesians 4 when Paul talks about putting off our old self and putting on the new self.  This is not just a one time new year's resolution.  This involves conscious, daily commitment to try to be more like Christ.

The apostle Paul gives examples in Ephesians 4 on how we can be children of light.  This list includes things such as speaking truthfully and avoiding unwholesome talk.  It also includes sharing with those in need, getting rid of bitterness, rage and anger, and "being kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you" (vs.32).

This is a tough calling from God, especially when my patience has worn thin, but with the help of God and through  the work of the Holy Spirit, I am going to resolve to try to be more Christ -like.

Even our cat was in a festive mood!

My sweet niece made a brownie cake to celebrate 2015.

Welcome, 2015!!  I can't wait to see what God has in store for our family this year! We especially look forward to bringing our son home, D.V. this year!

I just love our time obsessed son, as he checked his watch when the T.V. was counting down to midnight!

We had lots of fun playing games, which also helped keep us older folks awake until midnight!
